about

Arklay Mountains is back with their finest work to date on Well, That's Unfortunate.

The Ottawa, Ontario based trio intricately weave layers of prog-rock, post-rock, and post-metal into their ensconced instrumentals all while testing the waters of complexity, ambience, and cinematic soundscapes.

Arklay Mountains artfully imbues onto the listener multiple sonic emotions simultaneously. Examples are wrought throughout the album as the trio suspends us along that same precipice as a setting sun; those few moments when the sun has actually set but our human senses still see it lingering on the horizon.

Precise dichotomies of tense melodies resolve into a space of optimism and grandeur, much like the hero’s journey. This writing and production style culminate in a record that does not specifically fit in any one category yet forges new ground without being obtuse. The ebb and tide flow of the full album will appeal to fans of the instrumental music genre and beyond.

Citing influences such as Alexisonfire, Explosions In The Sky, Meshuggah, Mint Field, Porcupine Tree, and Tool, Arklay Mountains pulls on those strings as inspiration but not as key songwriting templates. God Is An Astronaut is a familiar example of the sounds Arklay Mountains produce.

The entire album is 51 minutes long, with an average track length of 4 minutes. Suggested tracks include Send More Cops, Legend Felled, Solar, Hudson’s Burger, and Stratosphere.
